“Artists
pretend to be only decorators but underneath it all they are trying
to change the way people think and they can be dangerous to a well
regulated society.”

Growing
up the daughter of a very artful mother I was exposed to many
different forms of arts and crafts from an early age. Art supplies
were always at hand and I was lovingly encouraged to express myself
artistically. I adored colorful construction paper, my scissors,
watercolor paints, markers and just about anything else I could get
my hands on. Many a happy afternoon was spent making a handmade
birthday card, a pebble mosaic, or even colorful geometric Christmas
ornaments!
As I got
older I began to focus my creative energies more specifically on
jewelry design and for a number of years I enjoyed a successful
jewelry design business. Much of my work was inspired by nature and
I expressed my deep appreciation and wonder at nature’s infinite
beauty through my jewelry. Sunsets, open skies, and moving waters
are some of my favorite things in life. Design inspiration is
everywhere!
But over
time…I grew restless. I wanted to stretch my creative wings and
try something that truly challenged me. I hadn’t sketched or
drawn in many years and even though I felt incredibly clumsy I
started drawing Mexican folk art images. As a part of my familial
heritage, Mexican folk art brings me great joy and has become a
heartfelt passion of mine. With incredible support and encouragement
I began transitioning from a jewelry artist to a painter of glass.
I’m joyful in my work again and excited to see my work evolve
before my eyes. I’m at my happiest when I see my work bring a
smile, or even a giggle, to someone’s face…it’s the best
feeling in the world!
